Yes, honestly: if you plant shrubs, any euro you spend between the gardens is too much. Since you live in Lower Saxony: the owner must take care of their right property boundary if the neighbor wants it.

Normally, these curbstones are sunk, 50cm length, 25cm depth between the plots. The costs are shared. Ideally, you install them together over the weekend and this way you also get into conversation (for other plans and problems ;) )

Ideally all of it, and preferably for free. :P

Nah, you're right, maybe I'll just talk myself out of the fence. I actually prefer it green rather than fenced. I want a garden overgrown with plants anyway, and spending 1000€ on a fence that will ideally be overgrown and covered by plants later on is a bit silly. Just to get rid of the view of the metal shed. That has to work with plants somehow, too. Once something is in front of it, even if it's only about 1.20m high, it probably won’t look as bad as if the shed is just sitting right on the boundary.

We just chatted outside with the neighbors for another hour, and maybe we'll just plant the hedge on the border and call it a day. He offered to maybe get some plants that have already grown a bit taller for the place where the shed stands, so that can block the view of the metal a bit more.

A different idea. Can't you ask the neighbor to build the fence? It solves a lot of problems for you :)

I have already mentioned that in Lower Saxony the right-side rule applies.

I also thought of Clematis (like ), grows super fast. Alternatively grapevine or wisteria.
