For me, 1&1 was the first choice. Unfortunately, it shocked me that they suddenly cut everything off for us without any warning. I absolutely need the internet. I feel cut off from the world... yes, that's how it is ;) :( I can use it at work (even at the current time), but actually only for work purposes. Nevertheless, I have to do online banking, etc. All information comes to me via email. I feel a bit screwed over by them now, even though otherwise (homepage) I have no problems. I also had no worries with T in the past, which is why I changed now. Besides, they basically told me that it probably wasn’t such a big deal to cut off in times of smartphones and also pressured me into a sales talk for HSDPA. No idea what the pros or cons are...

We were with 1&1 and I can only advise everyone against it! We were constantly charged for things we did not book. After complaints, the amounts were credited, but after 2-3 months they appeared again on the bill, etc.

We are now completely with Kabel BW and are very satisfied. The internet is also much faster ;)

I would be interested in more concrete details: What was charged how often? Usually, one has a flat rate and not much changes with that. I have also been with 1&1 for about 3 years and have never had any problems with it. On the contrary: Telekom switched all connections in our town to VDSL and I received a new router unsolicited from 1&1 because the old one would no longer have worked after the switch. Installation was more or less limited to exchanging the old device for the new one and restoring the saved personal settings.

Certainly, there are extreme cases with every professional provider (see the "Beware of Customers" section in various c't magazines), but if you generalize that, soon you won’t have any provider left that you could recommend with a clear conscience.

Do you have the option to use cable instead of DSL?

I have experienced that Kabel Deutschland easily outperformed Telekom and third-party providers in terms of faster and smoother installation during moving in and moving out.
