Hello!

Our construction started about 2.5 weeks ago and we are planning the electrical system. We are wondering how to install internet in the house.

About the house:
The house is built using solid construction by Viebrockhaus. Radio waves hardly pass through the ceiling between the ground floor and the upper floor. On the upper floor, the interior walls are drywall with metal elements and the radio waves do not pass through well.

For the ground floor:
We want to install WLAN with a router in the utility room. This way we should have reception throughout the ground floor and we somewhat reduce the electrosmog.

For the upper floor:
The question is more complex. We tend toward a LAN solution to reduce electrosmog. Solution 1: Pull LAN cables through the empty conduits from the utility room to every room on the upper floor. Solution 2: Repeater over the power circuit.

-> We tend to choose the 2nd solution because there are more power outlets than LAN ports in every room. It is also somewhat cheaper, but that hardly matters in a construction project like this.

What do you think? Does such a solution work without problems or are there limitations? Have you had any experience with it?

Thanks a lot for your input

Do it right or leave it. WLAN has no place in new buildings.

LAN and WLAN via access points, no repeaters.

LAN cable in every room where it is needed and one on the ceiling in the hallway so that an Access Point can be installed there if necessary.

OK thanks for your answer. What is wrong with WLAN? Why does it have no place in new buildings?

That would interest me as well. I didn’t have a LAN cable installed either, but use WLAN. This initially saved me an additional socket for the LAN as well as all the wiring, and no network cable can break on me. Bandwidth is also not a problem – we run Entertain on it and the bandwidth easily suffices for 2 HD streams plus 1 SD.

So where exactly are the disadvantages, apart from the fact that you need the devices? As I said, I don’t have the risk of a cable eventually breaking.
