I was rather referring to the handling of the cable itself; I should have phrased that better, sorry. I had to replace a CAT 7 cable at my own expense because I temporarily fixed it on the wall side with a screwdriver (just pushed aside, of course not damaged) in order to press a heating pipe. A matter of less than 2 minutes with the result that the cable no longer worked. Rhenish greetings

The shield already has cable inside, but laying it and the cores, especially in the network sockets, is not so trivial. Actually, only through measurements can it be ensured that the installation is okay. This should definitely be done by the electrician.

You shouldn’t sharply bend them, etc., but you shouldn’t or mustn’t do that with Sat or fiber optic cables either.
Regarding current usage, would it make much of a difference if the cable delivered "only" 850 MBit/s instead of the specified 1 GBit because of a kink???
Since I installed EVERYTHING in the gray empty conduit, sharp bends are impossible anyway, and it is also somewhat protected against crushing.

Hello Peanuts,

I don’t think this works. If the cable has faults and doesn’t meet the specified limits, the connected hardware will either switch to 100 MBit mode or transmission errors will occur.

The minimum bending radius for Twisted Pair is usually 3cm; we often use such cables in plant construction for bus systems. That is actually quite tight. If the cable is not kinked around corners (e.g., sometimes seen when retrofitting surface-mounted installations), it usually fits. It is important that it is not moved afterwards because normally a solid conductor is used instead of a flexible strand.

One probably always has to consider the whole thing individually. For example, there is also a maximum length that the cable may have. If you reach the limit here, it probably has to be laid "perfectly". If you only have 10m of cable, you might be able to afford a kink or similar...

I experienced this many years ago in the old house with an extremely long 100 MBit cable to my brother-in-law, which ran along the outside wall. There I had to manually downregulate the network card to 10 MBit. In automatic mode, 100 MBit was detected, but there were so many errors that no page loading was possible.
