What is the approximate cost of building a swimming pool in the basement?

5x6 meters will cost you around 50k with pool technology (good and not cheap). Stainless steel is more expensive. Dehumidification, ventilation, etc. are additional. Heating via the central heating system is great. Unless you have a lot of sunny space left to install collectors. Depending on the heating system/pool technology etc., you can expect maintenance costs of 100-300 euros per month. With a whirlpool it gets more expensive since it is an additional system. I doubt whether one uses a pool in the basement frequently. In summer you want to go outside. I only know one person who used the basement pool every day. Really swimming, that is. The others drained or filled in the water after a few years. There is a reason why people nowadays rather build in the garden (mostly with a roof)... With your salary, maintenance is not a problem. But the big investment and maintenance for something you will use little? At first it is interesting but that fades. Better just a whirlpool. It is cheaper in purchase and maintenance and will probably be used more. In summer, a cheap above-ground pool in the garden. Ask two pool builders in your area. It is probably cheaper for you than here in the south. I would (if not a stainless steel pool) go for a liner and install a saltwater system. Great for skin/eyes and easy to maintain.

Good thought! I can spontaneously think of 6 unused and one used private basement pool – but that one is also 12m long and suitable for swimming. Apparently, it was quite a trend in the 70s. If you cleverly fill in the pool, then a cold plunge bath and a hot tub fit at ground level in the basement room – great addition to the sauna, right?

A completely different idea: There are these wooden hot tubs with wood-fired stoves... Imagine one of those in the garden. You can cool off in the summer, splash around in the winter, and when the kids are in bed, relax your soul at 40 degrees with light snowfall...

With a pool in the basement, the neighborhood kids will also be flocking to your place, and you can hire a lifeguard...

We spent some time dealing with pool construction and then had an outdoor pool built, which we used often this summer. Using an indoor pool is rather unattractive unless you have such a great pool with a glass front, lots of sun, etc. With indoor pools, the temperatures are also a problem; who wants to undress at 22 degrees room temperature and bathe in cool water. If anything, the pool room has to be really warm and the water as well. In summer, it's pleasant outdoors in the heat to jump into 26-degree cool water; indoors in winter, it’s ice cold. Heating the whole pool water and the room continuously, however, probably nobody wants to pay for that; it only makes sense (if at all) with constant use. The whole moisture issue is also problematic, so you also need ventilation for the room.

Best regards
Sabine

Yes, regardless of the financial possibilities, I also believe that the cost/benefit ratio here is not right. On paper, a cool thing, in practice a few times cool and a WOW when the relatives come to visit, but also an operating cost as well as cleaning/hygiene burden and last but not least a not to be underestimated source of danger for the (still small) children.

Put in a whirlpool, partition off the rest and use it as a wine and potato cellar.

Build yourself a nice whirlpool and invest the money in the appropriate ambiance.

That's how I would do it
