What insurances do I need as a homeowner?

I find household insurance quite sensible for a "luxury" furnishing and it doesn't cost a fortune either. It often also covers the loss of valuables such as expensive bicycles, watches, jewelry, etc. Even just the 5-6 watches we have at home would be a very painful financial loss. Other insurances are building + natural hazard damages, BU, family liability and term life insurance.

Household contents insurance also covers garden furniture, etc. with us. We paid attention to that after everything was stolen at the neighbors'. With a robotic lawn mower and furniture, a four-digit amount is quickly gone.

Never conclude a bundle! Especially household contents and personal liability policies become outdated. Change every few years to include new coverages (e.g., drones, e-bikes are examples from recent times). Bundles prevent the willingness to switch.

I also have household contents insurance because of expensive bicycles and many cases of stolen garden furniture among acquaintances. I also have a photovoltaic system. The risks from this can also be insured separately, but good household contents and personal liability insurances already include coverage for it. Without or with only a small additional charge.

I would definitely add elemental coverage to building insurance, no matter where, because the normal policy only covers storms (wind force 8 and above). Heavy rain is only included in elemental. That means if water comes through from above but there wasn’t enough wind, you are uninsured. Many people don’t have that on their radar and think, well, I don’t live on a slope, no river nearby, and it’s been a long time since a volcanic eruption... but we now have heavy rain everywhere in Germany.

Personal liability as a family policy including children not liable for delicts costs €70. Building insurance for 200 sqm with elemental and glass €350. Household contents with elemental (without glass) €140. All per year, of course. I’m satisfied with that.

Disability insurance is a matter of belief. I don’t believe in it and accordingly don’t have one. We have term life insurance, but only for 20 years (kids out of the worst phase) and not in the value of the house or anything like that. Two policies together about €120 per year.

My insurance repeatedly offers updates on its own - in a bundle

We definitely do [Elementar] as well, even though we are stuck on the mountain and flooding is not an issue for us, for example.
But damage from snow load and groundwater is.
Unfortunately, you can only get them together.

What I see as a must: [Gebäude], [Hausrat], [Haftpflicht] and life and occupational disability insurance with family.

[Gebäude], [Hausrat] and [Haftpflicht] are self-explanatory. Life and occupational disability insurance protect against probable financial ruin in case of death or occupational disability. Because what is done legally for occupational disability is ridiculous. And most of the time the family only has a high income.

I have to say, the brainwashing by the insurers works really well. If you work in a common profession, the disability insurance hardly ever pays out, and if it does pay, it is offset against the state benefit.
