Wallpaper or plaster? Which is better in new construction?

We’re trying to make it as smooth as possible so that the painter has to do nothing or as little as possible.

The painter should only wallpaper and then we’ll paint the walls ourselves.

Possibly the painter should only paint the stairwell and the ground floor so that it turns out well, and we might do the rest ourselves.

Do you mean 200m² of wall surface or 200m² of living space? That’s a big difference.

Yesterday I roughly calculated how much the material for wallpapering and painting per m² of wall surface would cost me.

That would be about €4-4.50 per m² of wall surface (completely DIY)

about €1 painter’s fleece
about €0.5 primer
about €0.75 glue
about €1-2 wall paint (depending on whether you paint once or twice)

Does that somehow add up or did I miscalculate?

Your calculation is correct, I haven't checked the prices now (I don't have them on hand and I'm too lazy to look them up, sorry).

I will then ask around which painter has time and what prices they are asking.

The prices the painter asks I have to offset against my own costs for self-performance and see what costs more.

You should be able to paint quite well yourself on the wall wallpapered by the painter, right? At least the rooms that are not so important like the bedroom, children's room and so on.

Quote 1: 19EUR/sqm Quote 2: 16.50EUR/sqm, net of course.

if breathability is important to you, do not use painter's fleece based on fiberglass. The Erfurt, as far as I know, is based on cellulose and textiles (therefore breathable).
