In my current apartment it will soon be ten years – after moving from the previous one (after 24 years) I swore never to move again after such a long time. In the meantime, I have at least emptied a garage twice (which I probably wouldn't have done if all that storage space had been integrated into the house). So I do have to consciously "go there," but then you always manage to clean up until you’re completely tired; and above all: if the storage room is further away, you also bring less there – because the trash bin is closer.

People ... it's just about being able to refer to a post in floor plan threads where storage space is tight, a post that is meant to make you think and examine your own habits. And, it is rather pointless if this possible litany of items is repeatedly written into the thread.

Such a thread is useful. And it's also good if people write about their optimization before moving or give tips on what else to watch out for.

Each builder has to make their own individual model out of it. But no one can say, you should have reminded me of this or that.

It would be nice if the could also pin the post.

I would be very interested in the floor plan where there are neither hallways nor a utility room. How does the house work? With district heating, instantaneous water heaters in every wet room, and the electricity meter under the stairs?

Of course we have hallways, but they are not huge. In our storage room under the stairs are the house connections and the fuse box. The gas boiler and the water heater are located under the roof in a corner.

Thank you very much for this list, as it is a very good starting point for anyone who wants to make an overview of needs. It does not matter at all whether you have the same things or not – crossing something out is always easy, forgetting something is sometimes annoying.

Some possibly less established forum members have done it differently, are managing, and are sometimes annoyed when ideas that fall outside the norm are categorically labeled impractical or unfeasible.

Ultimately, a builder takes full responsibility for their project. This also includes their own and others’ planning mistakes. Whoever decides aspects differently should simply not complain afterwards, insist that they could not have known something, or expect to have been informed about something.

That already sounds like a makeshift solution in principle. Reminds me of a home builder who complained that his 5m² technical room was too small because the washing machine was also there – but he managed fine. That sounds as if only one solution is accepted here. That is by far not the case. The assessment of functionality among the "advanced" forum members is not based on their own needs but on the circumstances and wishes of the builder. And yes, if the emperor has no clothes, then we say (or write) it out loud.
