The floor plan proves to be poor during the shell construction

Good day,
we bought a plot of land in February and started construction in August. Everything was fine until the ground floor ceiling was installed. The garden faces the southeast side because there is a huge multi-family house on the south side, and the street is on the west side. I am uploading the floor plan. I am not concerned about the room sizes (utility room and cloakroom are too small). We wanted to place the garage on the right because the big house is there, but I noticed that in the evening a lot of light still comes to the wall where we have no windows, and I am really upset that we did not also put windows on the right side. Planning windows afterwards (the shell is standing) will not be done by the construction company without stopping the construction for 3-4 months, and then the price guarantee is also void.
We had to rush the planning and construction due to the financial situation. We were still able to get approval for the KfW55 subsidy last week, and interest rates have also soared after we signed.
How could the situation still be salvaged? I really only need constructive criticism because I have already made the house so badly and I am pessimistic that I cannot handle any more negative input. I need your help.

Well, then show a site plan of your property and the surrounding ones.

Can the garage be positioned differently?

Of course, the question is, if no additional window openings can be made, what do you expect could be changed?

Exactly. First of all, the question is what you want to change now? Otherwise, first have the house finished and do not put the garage on the south side. Then later, after construction is completed, add windows there and that's it.

There are also quite good interior designers (allegedly). They can also conjure up a bright room for you without windows... color games, light design, mirrors.... Chin up, keep going.

Oh, chin up… it will be fine… in the shell construction it often looks quite sobering.. everything feels small and dark.. It will definitely get better.

What kind of inflexible general contractor is that? It's just about a window – there's no need to stop the construction because of that. If I were you, I would grab the shell builder. Ask him how much it would cost to install a lintel for an additional window on the south side of the living room. If he says yes, it’s possible, you go back to the general contractor and tell him that it wouldn’t be a problem to add the window, and then you give him a good piece of your mind. If he keeps making such a drama out of it, at least have the lintel installed. That way, you know you can retrofit a window there anytime yourself.
