Telekom FTTH - What is needed?

As if talking to walls.. No one has FTTH at home but they talk wildly about it. Well, I think the OP is clear, there is absolutely no alternative to the Telekom modem and not every router works either.

The alternatives do exist (theoretically), but they are rare and definitely not suitable for the average user. Since I currently do not have a fiber optic connection, I cannot test it myself and am therefore still waiting for the first success report on this matter.

As far as compatibility with a router is concerned, in fact, almost all PPPoE-capable routers should work, but due to possibly necessary advanced configuration, this is also not a feasible option for all standard users in case of doubt.

As I said: I would rather consider a router without WLAN and instead place the access points tactically - or just turn off WLAN in the FB, but then you basically wouldn't need to pay for it (expensively) in the first place.

PPPoE-capable routers work

exactly, you are right, but for example the router from the OP does not seem to support that. As of a year ago, not all of them seem to work with PPPoE either, for example some of the "smaller" Fritzboxes - but then what do they lack (?)

They are actually missing nothing - at most the ability to configure necessary VLAN tags via the graphical web interface. But that is probably already going too deep for most here.
