Dear forum members,

I have purchased an apartment from a developer. The equipment description is already quite generous (e.g. tiles in the format 60x60 as standard).

However, I have now chosen larger formats. Do you consider the following additional charges for installation reasonable (pure labor costs, additional charges for other items are separate):
- Surcharge for laying floor tiles 80x80 instead of 60x60: EUR 22+VAT per sqm
- Surcharge for laying wall tiles in large format 120x240 instead of 30x60: EUR 93+VAT per sqm
We are talking about approx. 19 sqm floor and 35 sqm wall in two bathrooms.

These price increases seem extremely high to me.

Regards,

Sven

The larger the tiles, the worse the handling. From a certain size, you need more than one person. Additionally, it doesn’t go faster. Also, the cutting/adjustment as well as creating openings.

And you really mean 120x240?

with us, only 30x60cm are included. We pay the same surcharge of 19.50 euros including VAT for 60x60cm and 80x80cm. The tiler said it is the same effort/adhesive for him with 60x60 or 80x80cm. Your huge wall tile is certainly very difficult to lay, the wall must first be absolutely straight and this huge tile does not simply stick on the wall but must first be fixed and then dried. I would also consider whether cracks might occur in the tile with this format.

Best regards
Sabine

That is true, exactly as Sabine says. The high surcharge for the giant format is justified. Our tile prices are 55 per sqm standard incl. tile at 25. For large formats up to 150% surcharge due to a second man, special adhesive, and so on.

I have negotiated the installation of large-format tiles in the additional agreements.
That means I am now totally flexible regarding the size, or am I mistaken?

Sorry for misusing the thread, but it kind of fits.

Well, 80 times 80 is already big, but whether he can handle these man-high lumps is another question?
