You keep repeating that one shouldn’t build at all. Of course building is an environmental burden and a single-family house more so than an apartment block. But for many, this renunciation is out of the question. Therefore, it’s about choosing the "right energy concept" within these desires. So one that harms the environment the least without significant loss of comfort.
Why is renunciation out of the question? Just because you want your own land? There are few concrete (I would say no) environmentally conscious reasons why one decides to build a house.
Then I’ll give you another example. Venetian blinds/roller shutters. People build bright open spaces only to darken them in summer (which arrives surprisingly every year). Many materials are wasted and electricity is consumed for this... Or they immediately install an air conditioner, which does not consume little electricity. The excuse that we have a photovoltaic system doesn’t hold either. That doesn’t come from thin air either.
I could give many other examples that others have done who now complain about the fireplace. Examples like insulation, plastic flooring (vinyl), 80-inch instead of 55-inch TVs, lots of sealed surfaces, little natural garden, etc.
One shouldn’t pick out the small things to criticize but maybe consider the big picture.
Has anyone ever read statistics about what is better: heating with a fireplace and constantly burning wood or heating with a brine-water heat pump including photovoltaic support and using the fireplace as a decorative fire 10-20 times a year?
