We have forest, I know how fast it grows. I also know how much work it is to make firewood from a 15 m beech tree. And all of that just for the look? I don’t bake a cake just to look at it and then throw it away.

There you go. Do you know what happens to your cake after eating and a few hours of peristalsis? Congratulations.

Otherwise, bake your cake and let people enjoy their pleasure with open fire. You certainly don’t have to personally chop their firewood.

And why did you build a house then? It's totally ecologically wrong if you care so much about the environment. Considering a) space usage, b) soil sealing (concrete slab), and c) material consumption... Better to live in a modern apartment building.

How was it again with the glass house and the stones?

A tree that grows for hundreds of years and can bind a lot of CO2 is sacrificed in a few hours just for the sake of appearance, only because people have not yet reconciled their dream house concept with the currently built highly efficient construction methods. Every smallest chimney already exceeds the heating load needed for an entire house and that is concentrated in a single room. Windows open and have fun with that.

You keep repeating that one shouldn't build at all then. Of course, building is an environmental burden, and a single-family house more than an apartment block. However, this renunciation is not an option for many. Therefore, it is about choosing the "right energy concept" within the wishes. So one that harms the environment the least without significant loss of comfort.

I don’t understand either. Just use the oven heat like everyone else? Oven with a lot of thermal mass and a breakthrough into the hallway or something.

You will regret it extremely if you don’t use the pleasant warmth for the house. Especially a heat pump is a comfort killer due to the inertia with underfloor heating.

Without a wood stove, I think my wife would have moved to a hotel many times :D
