The technology is also "mature". But unfortunately too expensive. Just buying something dumb for 300€ - okay. Just unnecessarily spending tens of thousands of € - never.

Since it was only a preliminary conversation, I don't know that exactly yet, but I think a storage between 8-10 kWh.

You can save photovoltaic storage capacity by using surpluses smartly - for example, in the hot water tank (then the heat pump does not have to start at night for water heating during the sunny months) or in an E-vehicle. The battery storage only needs to be large enough to cover the base load overnight and to balance power peaks during the day with changing light. If there are no special consumers in the house, 6kWh is usually sufficient. Pay attention to the charging and discharging power. Systems differ significantly in this regard. From 4kW, you have a fairly fast system.

How do you want to fully charge a 10 kWp battery with a 10 kWp system and then also have a heat pump connected? And then you also have to pay taxes separately on the kWh withdrawn from the storage as direct consumption. I've had a photovoltaic system on my roof for 1 year. 8.96 kWp. I receive about 100 euros feed-in tariff and only have electricity costs of about 30-40 euros. But I still have to file a monthly VAT advance return. You pay VAT on the feed-in tariff and then also an unpaid supply VAT on the direct consumption. Then you also have to file a VAT return every year. You also have to do an income and expenditure statement (EÜR). And the profit is then added to your income in the income tax return. Better read up on the whole tax topic first. This is not so easy for laymen. You have to deal with this too then.

Thank you very much for the detailed breakdown... phew taxes... what a horror ops: Hopefully I'll manage it well with my tax software... The whole topic is indeed more complicated than one thinks, but I suppose once it's done it's only half as bad

Actually, a small scratch paper is enough for that.
