Hello,
something definitely needs to be added here! Even in simpler steel and industrial construction, gaps between the staircase stringer and walls larger than 50mm are structurally closed to prevent twisting or buckling of the foot in case of stepping on them. In the worst case, a child under three years old can fit completely through a 18cm clearance!
How large is the clearance of the opening to the wall further up?
If, as in your example photo, the staircase connects at the top to a free, cantilevered ceiling, I would move the staircase 10cm further into the room and install the same railing on the window side as on the room side. Everything else looks awful!
