I have acacia as a washbasin countertop in the guest bathroom. Oiled with parquet oil, it is treated once a year with refresher and works well. However, nobody chops vegetables on it...

Well, that sounds great. We want to take care of ours about once a year too. We also don’t chop much vegetables ;)

Ikea has great food-safe wood oil (listed with the cutting boards). I wouldn't want to use parquet oil for that. Who knows what it might release when in contact with food.

Thanks for the Ikea tip. We had already seen that there with the countertops, but we would probably have taken another look at the hardware store.

I think next time I would also choose a solid wood panel for the kitchen. We now have a very nice wood imitation (Oak San Remo), but in backlight you can see every fingerprint and other smudges. And you can’t really get rid of them properly. Our kitchen fitter left us [Königswasser], pure chemistry. That makes it somewhat better.. Our solid oak dining table, on the other hand, always looks good even after a party. When I wipe it with soapy water it looks like new. Best regards, Steffi.

Hello Tina,

we have also had an acacia wood countertop in our apartment for almost 10 years. It really withstands a lot, in hindsight it was a good choice. Every year we use the wood oil from Ikea and twice I have treated the countertop with a sanding tool to remove some scratches. In addition, daily wiping with some soap and that is it for maintenance.

In our new building, we have therefore planned another acacia countertop.
