Hello! We ordered an Ikea Faktum kitchen and are having it assembled by the Ikea service. Since there are too few power outlets in our kitchen, we want to have some installed before the kitchen assembly. The kitchen will be completely covered with Fastbo wall panels. And now to my question: what is the best way to have the cables installed? For cost reasons, preferably surface-mounted. It’s a rental apartment. For aesthetic reasons, preferably so that the cables are not visible. I imagined the electrician laying the cables either from above (near the ceiling) or below (near the floor). But how do they best get to countertop height? - Can I avoid chasing channels in the walls? - Can you drill holes in the Fastbo panels?

ok. or route the cables behind the cabinets (surface-mounted) and then attach the sockets from below to the wall cabinets? has anyone done that before?

We did it that way, meaning the "hanging" power strips. But there is a problem: if you have panels at the bottom of the wall cabinets, it is a constant hassle to get the plugs properly in. For fixed plugs, i.e., those that stay in permanently, it’s okay. For plugs that need to be repeatedly plugged in and out, I wouldn’t do it anymore.

thank you for the tip. I hadn’t thought of that at all... now I have to come up with something else. by the way, you can’t hide a cable behind the wall cabinet because the wall cabinet is flush against the wall. we have to go through the cabinets now ...

Going through the cabinets is ultimately the most elegant solution. The installers probably won't do it because of the warranty. Otherwise, use a very thin cable duct.
