For example, turning off lights when they are not needed will certainly be carried out more consistently automatically.

Yes, probably. But does the small savings with today's LED technology compensate for the production of all the electronic components needed for control? Although I also find motion and presence detectors very useful and partly use them myself. Simply because it is practical.

that was only an example. The garden irrigation could be another one ... but I am actually not interested in collecting these details. I belong to those who have a power shutdown automation in the bedroom. If no power is used there, the entire area shuts down, so that there is no power "in" the lines.

I wonder myself what I will do with the time saved, that is, where and how I will improve my quality of life with it? Do I even need to improve or "optimize" it at this point? For example, I also drive slowly (previously the opposite) and don’t feel like I have wasted 3 minutes upon arrival. Again, I understand if people like that and I absolutely do not condemn or judge it negatively. It just doesn’t suit me at all, because I, for example, consider watering the garden or mowing the lawn as something I like to do myself, even vacuuming, because, for instance, through our gifted [Saugrobbi] I realize that it basically doesn’t save me any time. I feel similarly about the term "scenes," which is completely foreign to me. It’s too synthetic for me; I make it individually for myself and not by a machine that luckily doesn’t know me that well. I am simply not a fan of constant self-optimization and don’t have to jump on every bandwagon that floats down the river. It is always important, however, that I can understand others doing it for themselves; both are okay.

It's not just the time saved. It's many small things. The total amount of comfort gained is in the end greater than just the pure sum of the individual components.

It's not just separately the monetary savings or the supposedly gained time... you have to see it as the bigger picture. Potential that can lie dormant in today's devices can gladly be used.

And surely many don't care at all that their new refrigerator can do more than just keep food cold, and that is completely legitimate.

But then there are those who find it interesting and others who simply take additional functions for granted.

And of course you are completely free to drive your house as fast as you want. As you yourself describe, behavior may also change over the years. A smart home can adapt to this or can possibly be adjusted to new needs with little effort.

So you can operate a smart home as fast as you need. A normal house, on the other hand, has only one speed. That's what it's about, getting more out of the house because the potential is there.

For example, automatically adjusting the lamellae of the venetian blind according to the position of the sun, so that the house is shaded but bright inside. Or lowering the venetian blind when there is sunlight even if no one is in the room/house, thus preventing overheating. In winter, the opposite applies.

Hardly possible manually, saves cooling or heating energy, and increases comfort in bright rooms with a pleasant temperature...
