That would rather bother me or make me feel patronized by the technology, because sometimes I prefer it bright, another day rather dim.
That's exactly what I mean. I don't want the same routine all the time, I want to decide now what I want right now. And that can certainly be different from yesterday in the seemingly same situation.
Because someone asked, yes, my daily routine is very varied. For example, I have breakfast at a different time every day, but very rarely right after getting up. That's because I no longer have to work full time.
I also don't believe this automation brings us any time gain. The time you save by, for example, not having to press buttons, you need to set it all up and maintain it, reconfigure it, etc. And you have to continuously deal intensively with it if you want to set it up yourself. Or spend a lot of money on it.
Simple example: 20 years ago you had a VCR, you plugged it into the TV, put in a tape, pressed a button, and could record. Any child could do that. Today there are countless ways to record something, but all require setup and more than one button press.
Everything is becoming more complicated and time-consuming. If not in operation, then in setup.
When I read "every minute counts" early on, that shows to me that this technology does not save us time. Just go to bed 20 minutes earlier, get up 20 minutes earlier, and start the day calmly. There's also time left to press the odd button.
And you can do less and less yourself because you need more and more specialized knowledge or even specialized devices.
Cars have repeatedly been used here as a comparison. Today you need special devices and programs just to find out where the fault is, for things that a skilled hobby mechanic could have repaired himself 20 years ago. I am therefore very ambivalent about this whole development. Sure, I think it's great when my phone connects to the car and I can play my music. But just the beeping when I don't buckle up annoys me totally. That is patronization that I don't want. With the last car, you could still turn it off manually, with the current one you could only have it programmed out and no one does that.
That brings us full circle again: I want to decide when I do what, and not leave it to the technology.
