I don't quite know how to say it, but my assessment of "our" situation is that basically NOTHING should be produced or used anymore, even if it only has a small negative impact on the state of the world.

It is clear that this will not happen ... even without plastics, life cannot continue as it is currently normal - and there are many other things as well ...

But EVERY indication of good - or bad - effects should be taken seriously and not mocked.
I find it is becoming ever more obvious how serious it actually is, and just because few people have cared about it so far, doesn't make it any less true.

That's how I see it and am happy to share it.

I don't want to sugarcoat this. That is fundamentally correct. But there are two points to mention: - Electronics made of copper, aluminum, and silicon can or will be recycled (yes, there is incredible potential here and we are still far from calling it good) - if I save energy through this electronics (because devices are switched off, checked for functionality, and heating demand is reduced) that can do a lot or even more good than it takes You really can't talk about environmental protection here, I really don't want to! But there are other points to address before we save on electronics that simplify life and make it more efficient. However, the focus is on the mentioned electronics, and not on the consumer disposable products ... But I also think this is slowly becoming off-topic.

But the approach (regarding research and progress) is the wrong one. At first, we walked through the savannah or through the forest. Eventually, the wheel was invented, the pulley, the printing press. All deforestation. Does anyone today want to do without these things? From that came the steam engine, electricity, the first automobile. Does anyone of us want to give up on those? Then came the computer, the internet, the networking. Does anyone of us want to give that up? Now the development is becoming more and more refined. Climate protection is the greatest challenge of humanity (in my view). Should progress be abandoned because of that? The crux is to find the right path. If none of us want to give up our progress (and I believe, deep down, no one here does), then the challenge is not to do without circuit boards, but to find alternatives. I don’t know how. It is not my profession. But those who can should be left to do it.

Yes, I do. I don’t know a world without telephones, but without mobile phones and without the internet. I would like to go back to those times. I cannot say that my use of my mobile phone makes me satisfied. It is practical. But that is something else than a real benefit.

It couldn't be summarized better. I belong to that group as well. I keep the house longer than the car. When the first security updates come, error messages are thrown, or something is no longer supported, the car just goes away. The comfort gain of some extras is positively noticeable for me as a frequent driver (currently about 1400km/week, soon less again). With the house, I don't want to have to worry about up-to-dateness, security, and flawless operation. The comfort gain I would get from that is not important to me, and for the play instinct I have, for example, a car.

I sell a car after a few years. If I have a problem with an electronic component, I pay the workshop and that’s it. If the problem occurs more often, I get rid of the car. I don’t do that with the house. And as someone who professionally has too many troubles with modern building technology, I definitely won’t bring a problem of this size and cost order into the house that can be avoided. :D
