We have a utility room on the upper floor of our two-story house for the washing machine, dryer, drying rack, ironing, and some cabinets if possible (e.g., towels, bed sheets, etc. - general stuff). The floor of the room is to be tiled, but actually no wall tiles are planned.
Directly next to it is the bathroom with an extra-large steel bathtub and extra-large ceramic washbasin as well as a walk-in shower with overhead and hand shower (unlike sanitary acrylic and mineral cast, steel and ceramic are much more resistant to chemicals; a hand shower in a tiled shower is also practical; hence the special mentions).
That’s it for the upper floor, now for the ground floor. There is also a utility room with tiled floors without any laundry-related fixtures as well as a washbasin and a shower with hand shower, also tiled.
Now the question: Should we possibly install a washbasin in the utility room on the upper floor (laundry room)? Or is the bathroom next door sufficient when you really need running water or the bathroom on the ground floor? My wife also said when asked, we don’t need it. She hardly ever washes anything by hand anyway, and in an emergency one of the bathrooms could be used.
We might be lacking experience here; do kids ever get their clothes so dirty that the washing machine is too delicate for them, or is that a silly thought? What could one use such a washbasin in the laundry room for, or is it not needed at all?
