It's me again. We're considering planning a niche for shampoo etc. in the shower. Does anyone have experience regarding the advantages and disadvantages? Since we have a glass partition, the squeegee would still have to be stored elsewhere, as it wouldn't fit in the niche...

Technically, the niche would only be possible on the back wall of the shower for us, where the faucet would also be mounted. Here, only a concealed installation would be an option, since otherwise the rod for the showerhead would be in the way. Now I'm thinking, if something breaks, you wouldn't be able to access the concealed faucet anymore. Does that make sense or would you prefer to forgo the niche and have a regular exposed shower faucet installed?

Thanks for your opinions!

We had a niche in the first house and are building it the same way in the second. Incredibly practical. No baskets that can rust, everything nicely tiled. We also like the look, of course that's a matter of taste.

We only do concealed fittings for the bathtub. The problem with concealed fittings is that it's not so well standardized. If something breaks, there's a good chance you'll have to chip away the tiles to replace it. I wouldn't have the patience for that, especially for the washbasins/shower, which are used quite often. For the bathtub, I simply find surface-mounted fittings ugly. They look so 70s, I can't help it. That's why we're doing concealed fittings there again and hoping for the best. For the washbasins, the taps go on the furniture (washbowls), and the shower is surface-mounted.

When we requested quotes for the bathroom renovation, we were also advised to choose surface-mounted fittings because spare parts are quite expensive and replacing them with a different model is very complicated.

Depends on how many bottles you want/need to fit. Personally, I don't like the niche because I don't like how dirt, limescale, and soap accumulate there. But we only have two refillable bottles in the shower, which hang in a wall holder. Sometimes a tube of hair treatment is also standing in the shower tray.

So basically a system like that. Available from cheap with mirror tape (under 10 euros, we have that :) ) to expensive design for 100 euros and more.

Here is also a photo of our niche in the old house, and the second is the plan for the new house. More children, more niches. :D
