I assume that your cement screed has bulged, meaning it has dried unevenly or is not yet fully dried. As far as I know, this should resolve itself once all areas of the screed are completely dried through.

Hello Yvonne, thank you for your note, however we do not have a usual screed but in prefabricated construction a basement ceiling was built from (top to bottom) sound isolation panels, then 7cm concrete layer on a wooden composite structure. (Wie das unter diesen Umständen passieren kann ist mir ein Rätsel.)

Good evening,

This is highly debatable; ask 2 experts and you'll get 3 opinions

Who approved the screed or the basement ceiling? Do you have experience laying parquet or did you assess it as manageable for you?

Yes, better; thanks. You can see what kind of answers a flawed question can produce. If the users had been better informed, some answers would have been different in my opinion.

Unfortunately, some information is still missing

Rhenish regards

Can you elaborate on that? Not that this exists, but why there can be 3 opinions on the present matter?

I suspect the site manager of the home construction company.

If the question is whether I left a sufficiently large expansion joint – yes, I did. Otherwise, I don’t understand what that has to do with answering my original question. As I wrote, I noticed the uneven floor before laying the parquet.

Specifically?

I assume that the following trade should not have continued working upon detecting the damage, as otherwise it takes on or increases the damage. Since you yourself say that you identified the damage, you cannot now demand that the screed company also takes on the parquet removal and reinstallation.

Because it is human nature? Regardless of profession or vocation. There is no DIN standard that doesn’t allow a certain margin of interpretation

You suspect, that’s interesting. Did you unequivocally ask the site manager whether the basement ceiling is even properly ready for covering, or whether compensation measures need to be taken? There should have been an acceptance inspection before starting the self-performed work, right?

That would be new to me in this clarity.

But, to cut it short — in my opinion, you can only blame yourself for the “black Peter”. Although you noticed the “uneven” floor, you did not immediately complain, but cheerfully laid the parquet. In that respect, you bear a considerable share of the blame for the status quo, and I tend to suspect that the supplier of the finished basement ceiling — in the event of a legal dispute — cannot be held responsible because he was only informed by you of a “possible” defect when it was too late for him to rework it. It will probably also be difficult to prove fault on the part of the site manager, since the acceptance effectively took place through your self-performed work. A lawyer can tell you more about this, if you’re lucky, the lawyer here on the forum. I’m only replying from my daily practice; of course fallible.

Lawyers have a nice saying: Ignorance does not protect from punishment

Rhineland regards
