I would rather plant a clematis or a climbing rose there, or both. The two like each other. Just no rambler rose, they spread again. It is better to plant those by old trees. Roses in the garden together with periwinkle or boxwood would also work. Both do not root very deep. I know that from experience. In between, Siberian sage, which is perennial and gets along with the roses, plus it is a bee pasture and can be pruned well if it can no longer be supported. It grows back again in summer as well. No lavender with the roses! How big is the area we are talking about here?
