Of course that can be the case, but certainly not at any price, or at least not below market value. As successors, we also want reasonable people, and there were plenty of them, all willing to pay the market price.

There are surely other reasonable people who would also be willing to pay the value once it's offered for sale.
And reasonable people could also sell it at some point, and there doesn’t even have to be any malicious intent behind that (job change, separation, etc.); and then the community of heirs would have effectively given away money.
I think you are deluding yourselves in your hope of acquiring a property, potentially even at a "cheap" price.
