Oh, I see. You must not forget that entire industries live off this kind of talk, like "But Mr. XYZ, you only buy a house once in your life. You don't want to spend years going into an old bathroom and looking at the unkept garden. And then the construction noise when you renovate it later. Just take an extra 200,000 EUR and do it right away."

There are also people here in the forum who make money from it... Not directly from you, but from or in the industry. What interest do you think they have in telling you that you can also leave it as it is for now and do it gradually later, maybe even yourself? I'm not accusing anyone of trying to rip you or others off. But no one has an interest in selling you less than would be possible...

Good morning, I am curious to see how the topic will develop here. The calculation shows enormous costs.

We have been renovating our old building from 1952 since January. The cost estimate from the energy consultant, which was confirmed by another independent party, was so far significantly higher than the offers we actually have.

As an example, the estimate for the insulation and renovation of the facade (approx. 160 sqm) was just under 80,000 - the offer is at 54,000. He roughly estimated the renewal of the water pipes at 20,000 (in conversation, as this does not concern his service as an energy consultant), the offer is now at 11,000.

But it must be said that we consciously lay the water pipes efficiently and forego fancy additions. Cedral panels will also be used on the facade. So nothing special, as we have to watch the costs.

Of course, all offers are made subject to the actual expenses and what we will pay in the end will be seen over the course of the year.

I wish you all the best with the project and that it all works out well.

Nanana. An old bathroom is not unbearable, but you don’t want to personally experience the renovation of a bathroom. In reality, that means relocating the sanitary fixtures (the improvised placement from a few decades ago is no longer acceptable today in the age of tiled wellness showers) and thereby basically gutting the bathroom. In plain terms: tiles have to come off, plaster has to be broken up, water pipes have to be removed (the wall must be chiseled open) and newly (differently) installed. The same applies to the electrical system, which has also found its way into bathrooms by now. After that, the whole mess has to be closed up again (plaster, tile adhesive, tiles, etc). A hell of a job with incredible dirt over months. That really isn’t necessary while you’re living in the house. We mostly did that ourselves and therefore know what we’re talking about here.
