But doesn't the parental allowance have to be declared as income in the tax return in the end, which then leads to a higher tax deduction if it is higher income?! It's been a few years for me, but I believe in the end it brings less than one would think.

That's exactly what I mean. In the end, it's a zero-sum game. (They're not completely stupid either).

If you earn 1200€ more per year today, does the tax office then take it all away from you again? Of course, there are deductions again, roughly calculated in the tax calculator, that's 100€ additional deductions per year! But I still get 1200€ more per year!

Apparently you have Swabian roots. :-) If you have already calculated everything, then that's fine. Whether I would do the circus for 1100€ per year, I don't know. And if the financing depends on it, I really don't know...

However, when receiving parental allowance, we are not talking about 1.2k per year but about 10-22k that suddenly have to be taxed. I also claim that it balances out in the end. Maybe I misunderstood you...

Yes, here the progression clause is confused with actually taxable income. Only the tax rate on the remaining income increases here. However, this increase is certainly less than the additional parental allowance gained. The extra 1000€ of parental allowance may cause perhaps 100€ more income tax. Anything but a zero-sum game.
