Which privilege? I don't think it's fair to call the incredibly high vehicle tax a privilege ;)

Of course, you can see it that way. For years, politics has been pushing diesel, supposedly better for the environment, less CO2, less consumption, etc. – the comparison has long been flawed – diesel simply no longer pays off. And now we are supposed to switch to electric cars, please. In 20 years, they will be demonized again. The cycle starts anew ;)

So I don't find my €150 car tax (Octavia 1.6 TDI 105HP, year 2013) exactly incredibly high. Especially when I compare it with the Corsa I had before, which cost somewhere around €80-90, or my trailer which costs €59 and doesn't even have an engine. The problem often lies in the fact that the engines are chosen much too large, and then it gets expensive. No one really needs the 2-liter diesel with 180 HP for a family wagon. Still, they're driving around by the dozens. With my car, I have never felt underpowered even in the mountains. With a trailer over the pass, a few extra HP would be nice, of course, but they're not really necessary.

If you look at the registration numbers, the discussion is over...

I agree. I also drive a Golf Variant with 110 HP and consume less than 5 liters. Luckily, I can even tow up to 1800 kg with it (so I can transport the horse). I would like more trunk space, but I’d be pretty dumb to give it up for that. I drive between 20,000 and 25,000 km annually. I don’t know how long an electric car would actually last with that.

Unfortunately, every half-decently interesting topic here is knocked into absurdity with the eco-bludgeon. By the second page at the latest, opponents and supporters start throwing the same old nonsense at each other... boring...
