From my point of view, negative comments are better for a forum than silence, even if they can sometimes be painful. Personally, I learn something from them. I think that here in the forum, apart from the factual content, one can truly learn, in a very soft way from my perspective, to set emotional boundaries. Or, to "find some forum members annoying" and still, for the sake of the matter, remain in dialogue. Also, I am really very interested in other viewpoints, even if I do not (always) follow them. (I use "I" so often in this post because I do not want to retreat to "one" nor claim anyone for my opinion. Hopefully, this will be forgiven.) Taking up the example of "calling anthracite-colored windows tasteless": Regarding anthracite-colored windows, I only have the opinion that they do not fit our house and color scheme and that dark colors do not seem pleasant to me. Otherwise, they are fashionable, many find them beautiful, some find them tasteless. I like that every one of these opinions is represented and can be communicated here in the forum. There’s something for everyone. ;-)

You mean me! It's not about having been here a long time. Many here often and always represent (only) their own opinion, and I have just as much right to that. That's why I also didn't want to be a mod anymore. If I pull out a personal opinion from 20 informative posts, which might be negative (as in this case, although it is also true that I speak for many with the "ugliness" – see some neighboring posts or threads), then I am allowed to do that just as others are. I am not insulting anyone here! But Tomtom is allowed to insult me? What kind of morality is that? Or, you are referring to TomTom, who has been around long enough to insult me and then add insult to injury? Incidentally, TomTom strangely enough had a different view on hedges and fences not too long ago Therefore, for me he is someone who either just wants to stir up trouble or was in a bad mood. Maybe he has those things. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

With us, the Lilly Pillies (syzygium) are very popular as hedges. They grow quickly, are dense, and the new leaves are reddish. I don’t know if they are available in DE as well. There are several varieties.

I am not in a bad mood, it's just that people who see their opinion as the only correct one get on my nerves. If someone wants a double rod fence, then they should just do it.
If someone wants a city villa, then they should say "yes, we have a city villa."
And just as well, if someone wants gravel in front of their entrance, then they should do it. "No, we don't have that."

In the same way, people have started to criticize you lately because you have a perfect lawn. If someone wants a flower meadow, fine, have fun; I like it when the grass is like a carpet.

at least provided a reason, thanks.

And I will also plant an evergreen hedge along a property boundary, I just am not yet sure what it will be. Definitely mixed, cherry laurel will also be included because I want it, because I like it.

Then keep your nerves under control and educate yourself about laws on insults on the internet (185 StGB). We are not above the law here. By the way, my opinion is not the only correct one, but I am allowed to express it.
