The municipality makes people unhappy with its income and asset limits - those who qualify and get a plot of land actually cannot afford the 800k€+ for the single-family house. With about 67k€ annual income as a single parent with two children (admittedly without much equity except for incidental costs), I built with a budget of 350k€ and it is absolutely at the limit of what I can bear. If I had known at the start of construction where I would end up, I wouldn’t have done it. So we manage, also with vacations, hobbies, etc., it’s complaining at a high level... but what is left at the end of the month (that is, what you can save for special repayments, a new car, whatever) is actually too little for me to feel comfortable.

This may sound very unromantic now, but... despite your very good salary, it makes complete sense in the long run to secure a partner who lives with you and contributes to the budget. But you’re surely already aware of that.

Yes, we have discussed these considerations quite often. The conscious move away. I want to change jobs anyway at the moment, so it would make sense for me to look for a job in a region where the price per square meter is relatively low. Only... I still have my family here, my wife has her friends. And yes, other people have no problem with that at all. For example, my brother-in-law’s girlfriend has now been living with him in Switzerland for about a year. She earns very well by Swiss standards, and he even incredibly well. But she had no problem turning her back on her family and friends.
And then, I feel very comfortable in Munich and the surrounding area. There are reasons why Munich is considered one of the most livable places worldwide and is therefore also highly sought after.

A short commute is very important to me. I consider commuting more than 2-3 hours per day pure waste of life time. Up to 45 minutes (one way) would still be okay for me.

For me, you are too fixated on the house. First, you write something about a plot of land on ImmobilienScout somewhere in the "middle of nowhere" and that just a few days after the "rejection." Completely overzealous. Seriously – I’m not going to move to a region, including my entire family, without knowing what’s really going on there, just so I can buy land.

For some, money is everything. I would never leave my family and friends behind for money in my life. Maybe I would think differently if I were living at the minimum.

Take a few weeks to collect yourselves and consider alternatives. Semi-detached house, townhouse, two-family house with parents, sharing a larger plot with another family and the same construction company – building 2 single-family houses at the same time reduces costs, buying and renovating an old building, etc.

You posted the post a week ago, you first had to be explained the differences between the different houses and how it all works, etc... But the first house is going to be built for the enemy anyway.

You cannot turn your back on friends, because they are in the heart. If visits are not possible, it is also not friendship. Acquaintances and neighbors as well as colleagues are replaceable.

What counts is what you find important.

That is very true. In addition, it costs health. I had a 2.5-hour commute daily for a long time and - although I really like driving a car - eventually I was no longer okay with it.

Around Munich, there are strange decisions by municipal councils going around - by the way, also if you own building land and the municipality wants to have a say in its marketing. Furthermore, you hear that there are still amigo deals. That could, in turn, help with good local networking.
