Moreover, the basic idea of Feng Shui is also contained in having little storage space, which is generally not unimportant in living.

Everything that has not been used for a year is consistently gotten rid of (not a shorter period, otherwise you’ll be without Christmas decorations on the 24th! Just kidding!). In any case, it is said that only those who do not constantly look back on old memories can look forward. Constantly asking yourself whether you will ever wear item xy again or ever need the white flowerpot again, or ever read books you have already read are such examples.

Therefore, you definitely don’t need much storage space. The washing machine can certainly find space in the bathroom, suitcases and winter shoes under the bed, cleaning supplies + vacuum cleaner in a spacious hallway closet. Seasonal decorations/clothing in boxes on top of the wardrobe. Ironing board beside it.

What exactly still has to be kept in storage rooms? Put everything on Ebay Classifieds and get rid of it.

I am also more of a thrower-away. But I couldn't be that consistent. Unused things often hold not only potential utility but sometimes also memories. The older you get, the more you draw on those instead of looking to the future.

In our old homeland, a river floodplain, construction took place more than once in the potential flood area. That caused a lot of trouble. For one, the white tank was not executed well enough - still in litigation after years - but the water didn’t care. With the currently prevailing construction boom, I would rate this risk as considerable due to unqualified MAs. The next one gave up too late on the idea that barricaded windows and doors would hold back the flood, which was especially expensive. An established horticultural business with a subsequently failing oil heating system also for the greenhouses eventually sold; it was no fun for anyone.

One can live quite well without a basement, we do, but in southern Germany it is a potential obstacle to selling. We have an extension in line with the garage that absorbs a lot already, but we had to downsize quite a bit when moving. Very rarely do we notice that we could have still needed something no longer available.

Wishing you a steady hand in making the decision
Gabriele

Hello everyone, we have received further documents regarding the NBG. Definitely a lot has been evaluated, surveyed, etc. There are some (although not necessarily site-specific) groundwater and soil reports.

As I have now found out, the top edge of the property (which is also included in a cross-section) is at 106.20 m (top edge of the street curb is 106.99 m) and the design groundwater level (HGWbau) is at 103.3 m (average GW level is 102.21 m). Unfortunately, I cannot really process or classify this information now in terms of what it specifically means. Does this mean a basement with still reasonably moderate additional costs is possible? Or is the groundwater level still way too high? Theoretically, there is a 2.9 m buffer (although the level could also be higher than HGWbau?). The underlying soil of the water-bearing layers is, as usual on the Rhine, sandy-gravelly.

Regards

I know I’m a bit impatient. But does anyone have an assessment of my data?

You will need a white tank. But it is not that much more expensive than a normal basement. Many builders generally build a white tank to avoid problems afterwards.
