Hi,

depends on the mason's finger.
The gap only serves to give the mason room for his fingers when setting the facing between insulation and stone.
Hence the name Bratkartoffel....:)

Does this wall construction have any disadvantages compared to a two-layer wall construction with an air gap and thermal insulation?

Hello everyone,

while comparing, I came across a few other differences in the walls.

One offer includes all interior walls made of 17.5 cm aerated concrete. Exterior walls are at least 24 cm, depending on structural requirements.

The other provider would use interior walls with 10.5 cm Poroton and exterior walls with 17.5 cm Poroton, depending on structural requirements.

Now I wonder, is thicker also better here? I actually like Poroton as a building material very much, especially since I read that aerated concrete absorbs moisture quite a lot. From everything I have read, I have also realized that in the end it is partly a matter of belief.

I am particularly interested in how the soundproofing properties of the two walls compare. The mounting of heavy cabinets or similar seems to be similarly complex with both materials.

Best regards Matthias

Self-drawn?

How do you go up the stairs? Do you jump onto the first step?
Light (window) in the upper floor hallway?
2 children? Who gets the small one?
Is the living room really facing north?

These are just points that catch my eye as a layman looking for 1 minute

I would say the exterior view of the gable sides on the kitchen side still looks rather poor at the moment. If you can’t move the door in the kitchen, then maybe shift the two windows on the upper floor slightly outward so that doors and windows align vertically?

Regarding the lighting in the hallway of the upper floor, it is surely planned that the light shines up the stairs from below. Additionally, a skylight would be possible, but it is hardly easy to clean above the stairs. Your wife would curse you :) I think motion detectors or some nice LEDs up the stairs are cheaper than an additional skylight and you won’t have trouble with your wife. Alternatively, ask a building expert... I think she recently revised a floor plan where she planned some kind of round skylight or light dome in a roof slope.

Is a chimney still planned? I would find that especially difficult to accommodate in our case. Usually you end up with the chimney outlet on the upper floor at a spot where nothing is or where you’d want to place a cupboard.

How high is the knee wall and what is the roof pitch? Did you plan that you won’t have the full floor area available on the upper floor?
