That doesn't make much sense. The microwave heats the entire volume of the food more or less evenly, the surface just like the core. The oven can only transfer heat to the surface, and from there heat conduction must ensure that the core also gets hot. (Oh man, that sounds technical...) Ultimately, this is the reason why bread gets a crust in the oven but not in the microwave. In the microwave, everything is heated through before it becomes crispy or browned.

The exact opposite is the case. The waves cannot penetrate deeper than 5-6 cm into the food. In addition, the uneven irradiation in the devices means that a turntable is necessary to at least compensate for this.

I do not see where the advantage of baking + microwave lies (faster?). In my opinion, the advantage is having both devices in one, also because it is not uninteresting in terms of price. Built-in microwaves are outrageously expensive and somewhat annoying to integrate into the kitchen design.

What are the experiences with combi-steam ovens? Do you use them as well or do you lose interest in cleaning after the second time? Pure steam cookers seem to be somewhat better designed for this.

Hello Alex,

I wanted to make a clear comparison between the mode of heat application in the oven vs. the microwave. In direct comparison, the mode of the microwave is basically volumetric, that of the oven only surface-based, both with their own advantages.

Remove the turntable... you can already see and feel the functionality particularly well...

The object will be hot on one side and certain depth after the usual radiation dose and still cold on the other side... so to speak half/half

That's exactly what I find strange. How can the microwave function of an oven, in which nothing rotates, be just as good as that of a standalone device? Doesn't the heat distribution have to be very uneven?

I'll dig this up here: How does it actually look if you want to use the microwave immediately after using the oven? Since the room is still hot, that would affect the microwave's cooking function, right?
