This could become the post with the most 'likes' ... :D Who says that roller shutters have to be completely closed? :) Shutters just have to fit the house.

They don't have to, but then a lot of heat comes in. Typical problem with roller shutters in summer. Shutters are structurally more like tilted venetian blinds, keep things cool and let in light well. But do I see it right that they are "just" decorative shutters or can you also open and close them? but it definitely looks great!

No, no special roller shutters. Ours are made of plastic. We lower them completely in time when it’s sunny. When we are at home, we lower them to about 80%. Of course, only the roller shutters facing the sun. In the morning and evening, a good amount of cool air is let in. We can really keep the temperature in the house tolerable this way.

Yes, and that's exactly what I meant. I am at home all day. If I close the south-facing roller shutter 80% only, it gets warm. If I close it completely, it gets dark. That's where the shutters have the advantage.
