Are we even talking about a stone house? because it can be wonderfully expanded, unlike a wooden house.

I disagree. Your house will be even harder to sell than an architect-designed house without a children's room. How many families in Germany have 4 or more children? Surely not all of them live concentrated in your region, so that your house would be snatched out of your hands. In absolute numbers regarding the budget, I am in favor of the extension. But you are setting the wrong priority. A conservatory is not intended to increase useful living space. Rather, it’s about an extension to the living room (where two more children's rooms can fit + an extension to the kitchen to make it bigger). Upstairs, the case is usually already lost. It’s just a pity about the Baukindergeld with the new build. But we’re currently discussing that issue in another thread.

More likely a broken / offset gable roof, or would the ridge height allow a real (i.e. single-slope) shed roof?

But there are definitely some people who want a big house; bedrooms can also be repurposed, combined, etc.

Yes, I agree with you. But if you already have a guest room and/or study in addition to the 4 children's rooms, you won't need another 3 studies. Unless you are a family of 4 teachers.

5 bedrooms are special. As a family of 4, you only need 3 bedrooms. And let's be honest, everyone (exaggerating) except me has a study/guest room downstairs -> So bedroom number 6

The above-average number of children's rooms will not only have load-bearing walls; the next owner can tear some down. Whether a childless couple later divides the 250 sqm more extensively or makes a doll collection room, a smoking room, a room for BDSM play, or whatever out of it, doesn't matter. I just wanted to say: buyers for 250 sqm of living space can also be found among people with few or no children. That doesn't make a house harder to sell – an 80s conservatory is more likely to do that.
