Why should it not be serious? Because new is always better?

Definitely not always better.

Of course, a run-of-the-mill prefab house is worse than a nice used one.

But I can only speak for myself. We are currently building and I can decide every millimeter of the house. The shape, gables here, Danish narrow cladding..., Should the utility room be 12 or better 15 m2. Kitchen open or closed, etc. For me, that is the ultimate. Our house is 95% shaped by me according to my wishes. The architect talked me into 5% more.

And when I see that used houses cost about the same, I cannot understand how anyone can prefer not to build new.

That's not what it's about at all. After all, the OP is not faced with the decision of whether to build new or buy used...

my comment refers to this user, nothing to do with the topic creator.

That does not mean that it will be a house that is of good quality and/or functions well or that everything makes sense.

Otherwise, an extension to a single-family house, which the OP Henrik describes as tranquil, so nice, is certainly also determined by personal interests. With 4 children, one probably gladly makes individual compromises that are no different from those in a new build, or that also mean compromises in a new build. Therefore, I understand your contribution as not very helpful for the OP.

What use is that in the hands of someone who is as uncertain about so many details as you are?

Yes, the OP's task is (completely!) different from the one in the case of blaupuma, recreating his Denmark vacation holiday home.
