There you see, perfectly fitting between the bedroom and the street, a strip long enough for two cars that is otherwise useless, moreover with a ridge about thirty-something centimeters high. This practically invites you to go there at street level right up to the house and finish with a Frisian wall embankment.

To also contribute once more to the brain-racking orientation question, which of course is very subjective...

Our house also has an east orientation for the living room and kitchen. But through a large window in the hallway/stairs, some light also comes in from the west. We always have it nicely bright and very friendly, thanks to comparatively large window areas. And: we don’t have direct sunlight in the afternoon and evening in summer. That also has advantages when I think of shading.

So: personally, I would be in favor of your plan to face the garden to the east. The view IS nicer than even the most beautiful nearby flowering hedge.
