It was not the first encounter and also not the first time our children were yelled at because they were in our garden. And I did not report him but told him or her to their face.

What I am getting at:
1. Caution regarding municipal regulations on fence & hedge
2. The division of the world into "doers vs. victims" sounds tempting, but in practice it is not always that simple

Whether you tell him or not, you screwed him over. What else?

And? Anyone who interprets the rules in such a way that they rely on the tolerance of their fellow human beings should behave accordingly, don't you think?

Can someone explain to me where I suggest the reaction was not right?

But what does that change about the fact that someone reported their neighbor to the authorities?

Is the choice of words not approved? Well, to report a "crime" only after years... that is "snitching"... because one knew about it all those years. Whether you like it or not.

I read: Have I missed again that wrote that the hedge is already years old? And reported see above - nobody was reported. Do you see different posts than the rest of us?

It's not about the choice of words. It's about the fact that I can't find that content-wise at all. And "snitching" as a word implies shabby behavior, denunciation. On the contrary, I think: Neighbor has an illegal hedge, behaves badly, is then “subtly” pointed out face-to-face how illegal the hedge is and then decides to remove it. That's how it is as a "doer": Whoever acts without thinking it through to the end sometimes has to do it twice. Or as my grandma used to say: Wat e nich im Kopp hass, musse inne Arme haben. Sometimes the “victims” are just the better thinkers ;)
