Hello everyone,

we have reached the 2nd draft of the upper floor and we just can't come up with a good solution. We have planned an L-shaped house with a gallery. We currently have two variants for the upper floor but neither convinces us 100%. Maybe someone of you has a good idea.

Requirements:

[*]The staircase and gallery should remain in their current position

[*]The bathroom can either be upstairs (north) or in the middle right (east).
[*]Dormer is not planned, roof windows where necessary – will come in the next step
[*]Windows are not drawn in the draft, they are located at the top (north) and bottom (south).

[*]The pitched roof is open at the bottom and top, roof surface thus facing east and west respectively.

What we like about Variant 1:

    [*]Sufficiently large children's rooms
    [*]Bathroom OK

What we don't like:

[*]Bedroom & dressing room too large
    [*]Gallery is cut off

What we like about Variant 2:

[*]Bedroom and dressing room of appropriate size
    [*]Little wasted space

What we don't like:

    [*]Arrangement of children's rooms (!!)
    [*]Bathroom too large

Do you perhaps have any tips, ideas, or improvements for us?

7m2 dressing room better not to change.

The lower children's room is a corridor.

The layout is meh..

Hello Mike.

I prefer version 1 of the room layout, although it can still be improved. Since the bathroom should only face north or east, you don’t really have many other options (at least you are limiting yourself – probably consciously…).

As Tom already wrote, the KZ in version 2 is very narrow at a width of 2.88m!!

You write that the bathroom is okay in version 1 and too big in version 2… (yet the difference between the two is only 0.5 m2 :) )

Best regards

To put it mildly, I do not like either option. I cannot understand why you insist on the gallery and a dressing room. What does the ground floor look like? Are there any elevations? Otherwise, it’s best to look at sample floor plans on the internet or have someone plan it who makes a living from it ;)

The ground floor will come as soon as I have the plan for it. Due to the connections on the ground floor, it would be most cost-effective to build the bathroom in the north or east. There is a WC and kitchen directly below each. But maybe by now it doesn't matter cost-wise? We don't really like either option, but we have no idea how we could do it better. o_O

Actually, the ground floor and the upper floor are designed together because dependencies exist. Therefore, it is somewhat pointless to consider only the upper floor now.
