A year ago it was clear: log house, nothing else (we have an experienced company, unfortunately no general contractor). Since we had contact with a very convincing general contractor for timber frame construction, I have been going around in circles. Since I have already received many enriching ideas and tips in this forum, I would like to invite you to share your thoughts on this. I will start with the advantages and disadvantages we have noticed:

Log house:

+ Only untreated wood, so "puristic" and minimal chemical exposure
+ Short waiting and construction time
- Trades to be contracted independently (we would not take on any work except possibly laying the floor)
- Prices can fluctuate more strongly
- Warranty "only" 15 years on load-bearing parts (5 on the rest)

Timber frame construction:

+ General contractor, so "worry-free"
+ With precise price indication (fixed price)
+ Warranty 30 years on load-bearing parts - waiting and construction time somewhat longer
-/+ Wood only in the "skeleton"; (eco) materials can be freely chosen

You forgot cross-laminated solid wood panels

Exterior walls are cross-laminated five times, interior walls three times with environmentally friendly, formaldehyde-free adhesive. This results in a composition of 99.4% wood and 0.6% adhesive.

You can decide at any time which ceilings or walls consist of visible wood. Everything made of wood feels to me like a log cabin in Scandinavia or Alaska. After a few days, they get on my nerves. You can't just change the wall color.

The building material is not unimportant, but I find the right construction partner more important. In your case, a general contractor who understands you and responds to your wishes.

We had considered Fullwood as a provider. They do turnkey log cabins.

Thank you for your answers! I was banned..
Exactly, MassivHolzplatten providers are nearby: they build completely without glue, one with aluminum pins, the other with wood screws. We also find that interesting

This is mostly a misconception. It only works in Scandinavia or the Alps (above a certain altitude), because only there do the necessary climatic conditions prevail: the average annual temperature is cold enough to keep biotic infestation of all kinds permanently at an unproblematic level. As soon as the annual average becomes too warm and too humid, you can watch how your untreated wood, for example, succumbs to internal cube break. Yes, there are wood species that delay the problem by 10 or 15 years, but a 200-year-old alpine hut is not 200 years old because special wood was used, but because the climate there simply fits.

That could in turn be a misconception. Here in Upper Bavaria, I know some pure wooden houses that are several centuries old and very well preserved: at an altitude of 400 to 500 meters. There are also thousand-year-old wooden houses in Japan in areas where the humidity is not exactly low. It is crucial when the wood is felled and how well it is dried.
