Our wish is a bungalow with a hipped roof and since it is to be a wooden house, my father does not want any gables. And my parents actually want to build for themselves, and the two children's rooms are only there until we have moved out. For the utility room, we have planned 10 sqm because an air heat pump and [kamienwassertasche] as heating are to be installed there, and we want to store our supplies and washing machine and such there.

Then it can be understood that it is actually not YOUR wish to build, but that of your father?! And why are 2 children's rooms planned if you will move out early anyway and your father wants to build for himself? I just assume that you are already of legal age, your sibling also around that age?! Regards Yvonne

no I am 15 and my brother is 18 but he will stay for a few more years And it is our dream to build a house preferably a log house only where should the 2 rooms go downstairs or in the attic? what’s the use of finishing the attic for 3-4 years. Then it’s better to have 2 more rooms downstairs right? It’s not as big as upstairs anyway. Also we can then go down from 38 to 30 degrees hip roof

Why a log house? It doesn't offer any compelling advantages now. Why a hip roof? Why insist on roof pitch now. Certainly, you can also build a larger bungalow instead of a normal gable roof house - but it won't be cheaper - rather more expensive. A bungalow certainly has its advantages for other reasons - if you have the space, I would probably do it too - but not for cost reasons.

We want to have a log cabin because of the indoor climate and it just looks really charming and cozy. The bungalow is dad's dream and mom and dad want to stay there forever, so they want to build without barriers. We already have a bungalow with 110 sqm but the two children's rooms still have to go somewhere. But where?

I have the feeling that you are very fixated on your dreams, which is certainly not unusual or inherently bad at your age of 15. The only problem is that, in the end, the financial background has to be right in order to fulfill all these dreams.

I think if money didn’t matter, some would build differently (bigger, "more luxurious"). But if, as you wrote, the original version with an expanded attic is "too expensive" (whether that is because more cannot or should not be spent), then the costs do not change significantly just because you move the space planned upstairs downwards. So alternatives and compromises have to be made (whether that is another house shape, a different roof, maybe only one children's room that you temporarily share, etc... or maybe not even a new building but an existing property, that everyone has to decide for themselves). Or more money must be generated (if somehow possible and reasonable). In the end, one can also be happy with a house that does not correspond 100% to the dream ideas.
