That will always be a matter of definition. Initially cheap is never permanently affordable! However, many builders usually notice this too late, when there is hardly anything left to change! This concerns not only the building structure but especially also the system technology!

@fragri and Euro

Double-shell wall construction? The best wall construction? How do you come to that?

I have nothing against 17.5 cm calcium silicate as a load-bearing shell and it is absolutely okay.

Have you ever thought about what happens if the mineral wool (core insulation) gets wet at some point? Or settles? And over time its insulating properties deteriorate?

@Euro Usual ETICS never achieve comparable solar utilization of opaque components, for example. What do you mean by that? Where do you have solar utilization with clinker? Okay, maybe fewer algae form, but algae growth cannot be ruled out even on clinker. This can also be achieved with filled Poroton bricks and plaster.

Then also the ridiculous 0.19 W/m²*K, that won’t meet the minimum standard in a few years.

I’m not saying ETICS is super great, but double-shell wall construction with clinker is also not really the best solution.

So if the core insulation gets wet, then the insulation is ruined... possibly there is also a construction error, right? Certainly, this is difficult to fix afterwards... However, through ventilation, the core insulation usually dries again.

"Then also a ridiculous 0.19 w/qm*K, so in a few years it won't even meet the minimum standard anymore. I'm not saying that ETICS is super great, but a two-shell wall structure with clinker is also not really the best solution.[/QUOTE]"

You have to consider the entire building envelope and not just the wall... You can also build a two-shell passive house. And what standards apply in a few years does not interest anyone today! Or are you already paying tolls in Germany because they might be introduced soon...

Did you happen to watch "Könnes Kämpft" on WDR yesterday? It was about ETICS! Usually, it is chosen because it is cheap... ETICS can have significant disadvantages... e.g. fire protection

For single-family houses, fire protection is secondary because the fire comes 99% from inside, and before it reaches the ETICS, everything inside has long been burned.

No, you cannot achieve a passive house with an exterior wall of 0.19 W/m²*K. Of course, it depends on the other components, but the exterior wall remains one of the largest surfaces, and here it mainly depends on how you insulate. Sure, you can build a passive house with a double wall, but how thick would the walls have to be then? You always have to add 11.5 cm + at least 2 cm of air. If the passive house already consists of 17.5 cm KS + 30 cm insulation?

With your wall thickness and additional cost, you could have already built a passive house wall with ETICS.

Assumption, hypothesis, or counter-evidence with verifiable facts and figures?
Just have an energy balance calculation carried out! Take into account the heat storage capacity of the external, energy-absorbing, effective layer!
What influence do algae have on energy balances?
You apparently missed the advantages of this variant, whereas the outer shell, as noted above, does not necessarily have to be clinker, [the questioner] has long since understood this with the help of his apparently good architect?

@brokenlink... I didn’t mean that you can achieve the passive house standard with 0.19 W/m²*K, but that you can achieve it with a 2-layer structure with core insulation. Inside, everything is on fire and the fire then spreads over the facade to the next floor... despite the use of fire barriers in the ETICS. I know EPS quite well from other applications... it’s a good insulating material, but unfortunately it also burns very well...
