If you are alone or still have a "real" car, that might be the case. With five people + a holiday trip or big shopping, the car becomes a disaster. I absolutely couldn't do anything with such a little lovebug. I need Sharan size or a larger SUV.

Usage profiles are different.

(in the hope of avoiding the sense and nonsense discussion here)

I just got a BMW X1 as a hybrid company car. It’s a lot of fun in the lower range with its almost 220 hp (125+95 combined).
At the upper end, it clearly runs out of steam faster. Previously, I had a 2 Series Gran Tourer diesel with 140 hp.
I don’t know how it is with the Passat, but the tank is really small at 36 liters. If you can’t charge regularly, you end up at the gas station quite often.
To still have the electric motor available as a boost despite the lack of charging options, the battery is charged by recuperation but can also be charged by the petrol engine. How effective this is, especially if it costs an estimated 2 liters/100 km more fuel, is debatable.
The additional weight is of course a disadvantage as well.

The vehicle has its pros and cons and is really intended for a specific scenario. For the daily route, charging options should be available, and for the few long-distance trips on vacation, you have the petrol engine. Then there’s a forced pause every 2-3 hours for refueling.

Big shopping trips are no problem, driving somewhere with four people is also no problem. The car is very spacious and the interior is somewhat larger than a Golf. Of course, it is not intended for vacation trips. It is simply the perfect second car. No tax, consumption of 3 euros per 100 km, and it beats every petrol car in the city.

would be for almost daily commuting. 30km each way. Charge in the morning/forenoon with photovoltaic electricity, at work at Ikea/charging stations from the electricity provider.

of course, the spot would be vacated after charging. I assume you can track this via an app and then see when it’s full and move the car.

Well, with a length of 3.6m, you can really say that it is a family car. Perfect as a second car!
