Is a single-family house in the Stuttgart metropolitan area still affordable?

Really funny, on one hand people go on and on about supposedly pointless consumption. At the same time, these same people have no qualms about laying out ~ 1 million € for a small house/semi-detached house and taking the hard-earned money from their parents for it. Really interesting viewpoints out there...

Yes. But it only sounds schizophrenic at first. In the end, it is simply a shift in priorities.

What one sees as pointless consumption is for another the real life. What one sees as a self-built golden cage is for another complete fulfillment. In the end, it is all consumption.

When we eventually see the grass growing from below, neither the great double garage nor the parquet floor will do us any good anymore.

My post contains no judgment whatsoever, as you accuse me of. I merely stated a current number known to me to illustrate the magnitude of the "problem." I further wrote that, for example, my parents could not manage double care needs from their pension. I never said they should not use their assets, only that any savings would then be used up rapidly. If it should come to that, then exactly that situation will occur. Period. There is nothing about them setting aside money beforehand or about preferring to let the public step in. Only one of the previous writers, whose parents apparently both received civil servant pensions, acted as if this could easily be covered by ongoing income. That will not be the case for many retirees. It continues that we, as children, should rather not "speculate" on an inheritance—even if certain assets are currently available. May that day be far away; I would like to keep my parents as long as possible! (Not that I am about to be accused of something else here immediately)

I find that too harshly expressed, if the parents WANT to give and still have enough in reserve. We don’t actually know whether the money was hard-earned. I assume that the parents don’t have to give up anything.

I misunderstood you there and therefore apologize to you - sorry for my harsh tone.

Right, it’s all a question of priorities and luckily everyone can do as they please! We benefit a lot from our house and garden. I also don’t like that it’s not feasible to realize this in Rosenheim for under 1 million, and the price/performance ratio definitely has to be considered. On the other hand, we both earn over 100k with significant growth potential, so the little house is just possible. Even without a charitable loan from the parents. And incidentally also far away from any allowances so that we don’t have to pay for the care of the parents...

Otherwise, I find it outrageous to talk about "ripping off" when there are parents who like to give gifts to their children. I really hope my children will never feel like they are ripping us off. I just love to give gifts to my children. But preferably with a house, rather than a Porsche.

By the way, I am also "jealous" when my girlfriend builds a great detached house with all the bells and whistles on her parents' property. The 500k that the property would have cost can flow into the house for her. But that doesn’t change the fact that I would of course have done exactly the same in her position.
