So I am absolutely PRO large property. Yes, with only 400sqm garden it can quickly look very unkempt when you let nature play the gardener. We have 2300sqm and would like even more. For me, outdoor living in summer is more important than indoors. We have a spacious driveway....Almost majestic, 40 meters long. Lined with low-maintenance shrubs like boxwood and co. In the garden itself we have MEADOW, no golf lawn, a few fruit trees and native deciduous plants, here and there roses or other flowers. In the middle of the garden is our 2nd terrace with outdoor kitchen. The children have a large area for a true playground with climbing tower and co. We cut the hedge and shrubs once a year and my husband loves to drive his lawn mower tractor over the meadow once a week. I find our natural oasis an absolute place of relaxation, which does not require much work (in my opinion) and at larger parties we are admired every time for our paradise.

So you basically have low-maintenance lawn + a few trees and shrubs. Then it is also easy to maintain the property – mowing the lawn is not so time-consuming!

However, the OP wants to use the property extensively, then it will not only be about mowing the lawn...

A thousand thanks for your incredibly many and very helpful comments!

I already knew it would be a lot of work, but I think I underestimated it a bit. It doesn't all have to look perfect, but I do want to use the garden (so not just lawn). And since my husband isn't too convinced by the idea either, we will probably continue looking for smaller plots. Maybe we'll find one that is medium-sized and affordable ;)

Thanks again to everyone!
