Is a 3,000 sqm plot sensible?

That is wishful thinking Marcus; just wait and see what sums are quoted to you for the maintenance of your property. Especially how many hours are required for it to be maintained and remain so.

Honestly: why would you want a huge property if you then hire someone for lawn care? And at a time when you want to stretch out all fours by yourself... We have on 650 property: front yard, house, and two large terraces. Besides beds and enclosure by a hedge there are: several berry bushes, two thornless blackberries, a small raspberry hedge, two kiwis, two composters, three fruit trees, an herb bed by the kitchen, another one by the terrace, two small areas for kohlrabi and beetroot. Tomato and cucumber corner :) In addition, two lawns, one relatively square and free for badminton or so, the other somewhat angular and connecting several areas. There is still space for a fire pit with a beach chair and a greenhouse of manageable size. The weeds are annoying, have to be done again and again, watering is really a topic :( The vegetable beds have to be regularly maintained regarding small animals, the fruit trees constantly have fungus ... I like wandering through the garden, sitting here and there - but if all that has to be done in a bent posture... If everything is a must, then a large garden is not what brings relaxation. By the way: my husband mows three times a week at the moment. That’s too much for me - bigger? Never! And there are certainly some cheap plants, gladly also some that need to be nursed. But then it simply takes several years with monthly expenses until the garden gets some structure.

That was the compromise I suggested. Unfortunately, there are areas in Germany where practically no building plots are available. Then one might have to consider, if an opportunity arises, to buy a few more square meters.

Of course, light and shadow, and everyone has to decide that for themselves. 3,000 sqm would also be too much for me and certainly outside the compromise radius, but everyone has to decide that for themselves, weighing pros and cons. You can't just say, max. 800 sqm. Maybe the person has horses or other ideas.

With animals, of course, it’s a different matter, but then we’re more at the agricultural farmstead ;)

Hello!

Even with a bit of lawn and plants, you are well occupied. My wife also comes up with the "greatest" ideas. Why? Well, she is currently at home like you (parental leave) and has her own little fantasies :-) Currently ornamental garden with all the pipapo.

She plans, buys flowers, and I do all the donkey work. Somehow I like doing it, but on the other hand, not really. Because it stresses me a bit when I know there is still something left to do, the a lot of work is exhausting, and I also want to do NOTHING in the evening once in a while. Or go jogging again.

My neighbors have a 3-4 square meter area. Wife at home, 5 kids, husband brings home the bread. They don't have any fruit or vegetables, but many plants, trees, and lawn. They are CONSTANTLY outside with all the kids doing something.

In short: Sorry, I feel sorry for your husband, he will have to realize your dreams and bear the stress. Especially if you go back to work again. Don't be mad, but do it for your husband's sake. If he already has concerns now, it won't get any better.

Why not divide the plot? Depending on how Wiedes is divided, you can make 3-4 parcels out of it. Either around 750 or 1000 sqm. Still enough space and it would save money again
