Is a 3,000 sqm plot sensible?

Then you just let any Sa come for 10 euros. 2-3 hours, then the lawn is mowed and the rest checked. Sure, it's a few euros a month, but if you fall in love with the property and everything else fits, then go for it. If necessary, you can divide the property when buying and lease a part.

Sure, people line up to work for three hours for 10€. Maybe you find someone for an hour, but in 2-3 hours they don’t even mow the lawn. But that’s only a small part of the mandatory program. In summer, a vegetable garden quickly takes about an hour per day just for watering. The story about the sheep that mow the lawn is persistent, but it doesn’t work because they only eat what they like, so they only mow partially. Also, you have to watch out because some weeds spread like crazy. Some of them are poisonous, so you either get problems with sick animals and the public authorities, or if you’re lucky and the animals don’t eat them, then those weeds just stay and the lawn gets grazed down. After 3 years, there’s nothing left but a weed field.

Sure, part of such a property can be “maintained,” but not completely. And after 1-2 years it’s so overgrown that it’s no longer usable without a lot of (financial) effort. So why do I need 3000m2 if I can only use 1000m2 of it?

I would gladly give away about 100-150m2. Or as I’ve repeatedly threatened my wife, I’ll concrete it over and paint the area green.

Building is always about compromises, we wanted 800 sqm and got 1,700 sqm. No idea what we will do there, we don't even have a plan yet on how to design the whole area. First, there will be a proper driveway and 4 parking spaces. A terrace is also fixed, the rest is still open.

I'll tell you how it looks like at our place: We have a 1000 sqm plot. Spread across it are 8 fruit trees, a vegetable bed, an herb bed, some deciduous and coniferous trees, many bushes, and the rest is lawn. We are both employed (my husband full-time, I work 3 full days a week). We have two small children. When we bought the house four years ago, we were absolutely thrilled to have so much garden. Now hardly a day goes by without me wishing for less garden. We seriously underestimated the work! After work, we are in the garden every day – and not to relax ;-) just to keep everything somewhat in shape. We no longer have overly perfectionist demands. As soon as both children are in bed, we go back outside. Today, for example, my husband has been watering since 6 p.m. You simply don’t realize beforehand how much time that takes every day. We love our garden very much, it’s great for the children, but we would never want such a large plot again. Next year we will build in the second row in our garden (fortunately possible) and sell the house in front. The plot will then be divided. In about two to three years, the area will be halved, and I am really looking forward to that :-)

Phew, well if you know someone who mows 3,000 m² for 25 euros, hats off, I’ll borrow them sometime.

I recently tried to find a company to trim the hedges at our rented house, it was not possible, and it wasn’t due to the price.
