Of course, I don't know all surfaces and surely they have improved over time, but I can still very well remember that both in my childhood and before building the house we often had white doors and these were always yellowed around the handle. It may be that others always close the door by the handle, but my experience (and observation also with other people) is that the door is also closed by the leaf itself, which over time leads to exactly these discolorations, which depending on the surface can hardly be completely removed. Besides, I just find white too sterile, even though it naturally goes with everything. However, to say that wood is just a passing trend and then to best lay expensive real wood parquet (in oak) seems to me somewhat contradictory as well...
