Hello,

it is planned to install a Hörmann MZ Thermo side entrance door on the weather side (north/west) into the garage (passage to the garden). According to the offer, the installation is "standard installation foam-filled". According to research, this is not recommended due to the warranty for tightness. However, since it is an unheated garage (masonry, flat roof with insulation), this could be "okay". Or what would be the (better) alternative? The door first leads into a kind of "anteroom" and then through a wall opening into the actual double garage. I have requested the door including installation from a larger building supply store.

Hi,

I would use a 4D compression tape (e.g. Illbruck). It will still be foamed at the bottom. Since it is only an ancillary room in a garage, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Best regards

In addition to the circumferential insulation, please also plan for a properly insulated and façade-standard sealed floor installation profile (prevents thermal bridging) and configure the door with a drop-down seal (principle like Schallex and co.). Also directly plan the rain drip edge on the door and drainage of the threshold in front of the door (necessary for driving rain and snow drifts). We have implemented it this way and are satisfied.

The door has already been ordered. According to the measurement technician and seller, a compressible sealing tape could not be installed without "enlarging" the existing wall opening (straightening the stone flanks – which I did not want to do). When I inquired about sealing tape/compressible sealing tape, I was casually told: "This is always done this way (--> foamed in)." "That's enough – especially for a garage." "We install so many doors, we know what we're doing." It always went something like that.

What do you mean by "all-around insulation"? Do I have to insulate additionally (reveal)?

The floor profile will be installed up to the finished floor level. Depending on whether I can do the floor before or not, this is still "open" for now.

Is the rain drip strip installable afterwards? I don’t have one.

I will probably install a channel for threshold drainage when I do the garden.
