Hello everyone,

we are currently dealing with the topic of impact sound and are not quite sure about our construction project. We have about 200m² with underfloor heating and almost everywhere glued parquet. Only in the bathrooms and the utility room are tiles used.

Glued parquet already offers better impact and walking sound insulation, and now the question arises whether we should spend the additional cost on better impact sound insulation like the Wineo impact sound insulation Sound-Protect Eco Profi. Currently, the following is planned:

- Foil V60
- 6.5cm cement screed
- 5cm thermal insulation EPS WLG 035
- 3cm multi impact sound insulation board EPS 040 DES

What do you think, is the purchase worth it? An alleged reduction by 20db is quite a lot, but I have also read that it is just marketing talk.

so long...

Save yourselves the costs and glue the parquet down normally. And if you don’t want to be deterred from that, only use the stuff for the [OG]. In the basement (if you have one), surely no one will complain. It’s just marketing and money-grabbing.

Thank you for your assessment. I looked further and a 30mm EPS impact sound insulation board reduces noise by 29db, which is even better than the 20db of Wineo Sound-Protect Eco Profi. What puzzles me is that only mass helps against sound and EPS is not exactly known for its mass.

Mass is not the same as weight... that is often the mistake in thinking.

OK, you have to consider the density, but I still don't understand why EPS is supposed to be so good. I have also seen constructions that use rock wool and wood wool. Hmm... can someone explain this a bit?

Have you ever even thought about the topic of impact sound and walking noise? Furthermore, about the floating and glued installation? Then you would actually know that, for example, the Wineo you mentioned was specifically developed for floating installation. You can't even glue it.
